What if I’m hired after TESAP has started for the year?

If TESAP has already started for the year, you would simply go to work every day and enjoy on-the-job learning and gather some good field experience while you await the opportunity to apply for TESAP. Enrollment typically opens in February and TESAP begins in September.

What if I apply but don’t get accepted into TESAP?

While we wish we could take any team member who is interested in TESAP, we do have to maintain a one-to-one ratio of journeymen and apprentices. Because of this, we must limit the number of apprentices we are able to accept into our program each year. If you apply but are not accepted, you are eligible to apply again the next year. In the meantime, you are still working full time and gaining invaluable experience and insight that will help you excel in the classroom setting.

    What does it cost?

The cost of the apprenticeship program is covered by Travis Electrical Service.

    Does the VA recognize TESAP?

The Travis Electrical Service Apprenticeship Program is recognized by the VA. Present your valid letter of eligibility when you apply. Once you are accepted into the program, you can receive your benefits as stipulated by the VA during your enrollment.

How long does it take to get through the program?

TESAP is a four-year program comprised of on-the-job learning (OJL) as well as related technical instruction (RTI). During the four-year period, apprentices will:

    • Work approximately 2,000 hours per year (8,000 total OJL hours required for TESAP)
    • Log 144 classroom hours per year (576 total RTI hours required for TESAP)
    • Attend class two nights per week during the “School Year” (typically September through April) and pass classes with a 70% or higher average.

How do I work AND go to school at the same time?

Members of TESAP work during the day and attend class two nights per week. The days of the week and class start times vary from year to year. You will earn an hourly wage for your working hours and will attend class on your own (unpaid) time.

What happens when I finish the program?

Once you have successfully completed the program, you will be considered a journeyman level electrician. You will be awarded a certificate of completion from the Travis Electrical Service Apprenticeship Program and the Department of Labor.

As far as what your role at TES will look like, the sky is the limit! The leadership of Travis Electrical Service is planning for company-wide growth, and we need capable, talented, well-trained electricians to help us get there. We are confident that you will want to stay with us, and we want you to know that we have different pathways available that allow for movement in your career.
